The Alternative Dispute Resolution Cell, Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, inaugurated the 3rd Edition of the Samanvay International Mediation Competition, 2025. The inaugural commenced with great enthusiasm and participation at the international level. The event marked the presence of distinguished Assessors from both India and abroad, eminent Chief Guest Mr. Anil K. Airi, and Guest of Honour Mr. Pintu Babu, along with law students and professionals from reputed national and international institutions, including the National University of Singapore.
The event commenced with the Welcome Address delivered by Dr. Ruchi Gupta, Chairperson of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Cell, HPNLU, Shimla. In her address, Dr. Gupta warmly welcomed the esteemed Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, distinguished Assessors, sponsors, faculty members, participating teams, and attendees from across the globe and reflected on the journey of the Samanvay International Mediation Competition, noting how it has grown from a national initiative into a prestigious international platform that fosters learning, skill-building, and cross-cultural dialogue among law students.
In her inaugural address, Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, HPNLU, Shimla extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries and participants. She emphasized the significance of the term ‘Samanvay’, reflecting harmony and coordination in the context of the Constitution of India. She lauded the ADR Cell of HPNLU for its commendable efforts in elevating the competition to an international platform and encouraged continued commitment to fostering a culture of mediation among law students.
The Chief Guest, Learned Senior Advocate of the Delhi High Court, Shri Anil K. Airi, delivered an enlightening address that set the tone for the event. He elaborated on the multi-dimensional nature of mediation, emphasizing that its impact extends far beyond the immediate legal concerns of disputing parties. Mediation, he noted, serves as a powerful tool for restoring relationships, building trust, and fostering a culture of dialogue and mutual respect within society. By drawing from his own experience at the Bar, Shri Airi encouraged the young generation of legal minds to embrace mediation not just as a professional skill, but as a philosophy rooted in peaceful coexistence and constructive dialogue.
The address of Guest of Honour by Mr. Pintu Babu, Leader in the Practice Development group at Nishith Desai Associates also shared his insights, enriching the understanding of mediation among the participants. Mr. Babu encouraged young legal professionals to adopt a solution-oriented mindset, stating that mediation is not merely a legal process but a transformative tool for conflict resolution that upholds dignity, confidentiality, and mutual respect. His address enriched the academic and practical understanding of mediation among participants and left them with a deeper appreciation for the nuances and effectiveness of this evolving practice.
The inaugural concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Bharat Barowalia, Coordinator of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Cell, HPNLU, Shimla. Dr. Barowalia expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries for gracing the occasion and sharing their invaluable insights with the participants.
HPNLU, Shimla, since its inception, has remained steadfast in promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms, with a special focus on mediation. The ADR Cell, as a student-driven initiative, has actively contributed to shaping mediation skills among students. Over the years, HPNLU students have earned accolades in various ADR competitions across the country, and several students have been trained as mediators under the University’s guidance.
This edition of Samanvay features participation from leading National Law Universities and law schools across India, as well as esteemed international teams, affirming the event’s growing global stature. The presence of renowned assessors from the international mediation community added significant value to the competition and the learning experience for all involved. (डॉ.) प्रीती सक्सेना के नेतृत्व में समन्वय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मध्यस्थता प्रतियोगिता, 2025 के तीसरे संस्करण का उद्घाटन किया। उद्घाटन समारोह अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर बड़े उत्साह और भागीदारी के साथ शुरू हुआ। इस कार्यक्रम में भारत और विदेश दोनों के प्रतिष्ठित मूल्यांकनकर्ता, प्रख्यात मुख्य अतिथि श्री अनिल के. ऐरी और विशिष्ट अतिथि श्री पिंटू बाबू, के साथ-साथ सिंगापुर राष्ट्रीय विश्वविद्यालय सहित प्रतिष्ठित राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संस्थानों के विधि छात्र और पेशेवर उपस्थित थे।
कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत एचपीएनएलयू, शिमला के वैकल्पिक विवाद समाधान (एडीआर) प्रकोष्ठ की अध्यक्ष डॉ. रुचि गुप्ता के स्वागत भाषण से हुई। अपने संबोधन में, डॉ. गुप्ता ने सम्मानित मुख्य अतिथि, विशिष्ट अतिथि, प्रतिष्ठित मूल्यांकनकर्ताओं, प्रायोजकों, संकाय सदस्यों, भाग लेने वाली टीमों और दुनिया भर से आए उपस्थित लोगों का गर्मजोशी से स्वागत किया और समन्वय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मध्यस्थता प्रतियोगिता की यात्रा पर विचार किया, यह देखते हुए कि कैसे यह एक राष्ट्रीय पहल से एक प्रतिष्ठित अंतरराष्ट्रीय मंच में विकसित हुआ है जो कानून के छात्रों के बीच सीखने, कौशल निर्माण और अंतर-सांस्कृतिक संवाद को बढ़ावा देता है।

(डॉ.) प्रीती सक्सेना, माननीय कुलपति, एचपीएनएलयू, शिमला ने सभी गणमान्य व्यक्तियों और प्रतिभागियों का हार्दिक स्वागत किया। उन्होंने भारत के संविधान के संदर्भ में सद्भाव और समन्वय को दर्शाते हुए ‘समन्वय’ शब्द के महत्व पर जोर दिया। उन्होंने प्रतियोगिता को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मंच पर पहुँचाने के लिए एचपीएनएलयू के एडीआर प्रकोष्ठ के सराहनीय प्रयासों की सराहना की और विधि छात्रों में मध्यस्थता की संस्कृति को बढ़ावा देने के लिए निरंतर प्रतिबद्धता को प्रोत्साहित किया।
मुख्य अतिथि, दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय के विद्वान वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता, श्री अनिल के. ऐरी ने एक ज्ञानवर्धक भाषण दिया जिसने कार्यक्रम की दिशा निर्धारित की। उन्होंने मध्यस्थता की बहुआयामी प्रकृति पर विस्तार से प्रकाश डाला और इस बात पर बल दिया कि इसका प्रभाव विवादित पक्षों की तात्कालिक कानूनी चिंताओं से कहीं आगे तक फैला हुआ है। उन्होंने कहा कि मध्यस्थता, समाज में संबंधों को बहाल करने, विश्वास का निर्माण करने और संवाद एवं पारस्परिक सम्मान की संस्कृति को बढ़ावा देने के लिए एक शक्तिशाली उपकरण के रूप में कार्य करती है। बार में अपने स्वयं के अनुभव से, श्री ऐरी ने कानूनी क्षेत्र की युवा पीढ़ी को मध्यस्थता को न केवल एक पेशेवर कौशल के रूप में, बल्कि शांतिपूर्ण सह-अस्तित्व और रचनात्मक संवाद में निहित एक दर्शन के रूप में अपनाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया।
मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में निशीथ देसाई एसोसिएट्स के प्रैक्टिस डेवलपमेंट समूह के प्रमुख श्री पिंटू बाबू ने भी अपने विचार साझा किए और प्रतिभागियों के बीच मध्यस्थता की समझ को समृद्ध किया। श्री बाबू ने युवा कानूनी पेशेवरों को समाधान-उन्मुख मानसिकता अपनाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया और कहा कि मध्यस्थता केवल एक कानूनी प्रक्रिया नहीं है, बल्कि संघर्ष समाधान के लिए एक परिवर्तनकारी उपकरण है जो गरिमा, गोपनीयता और पारस्परिक सम्मान को बनाए रखता है। उनके संबोधन ने प्रतिभागियों के बीच मध्यस्थता की शैक्षणिक और व्यावहारिक समझ को समृद्ध किया और उन्हें इस विकसित हो रही प्रथा की बारीकियों और प्रभावशीलता के लिए गहरी सराहना दी।
उद्घाटन समारोह का समापन एचपीएनएलयू, शिमला के वैकल्पिक विवाद समाधान प्रकोष्ठ के समन्वयक डॉ. भरत बरोवालिया द्वारा दिए गए धन्यवाद प्रस्ताव के साथ हुआ। डॉ. बरोवालिया ने इस अवसर की शोभा बढ़ाने और प्रतिभागियों के साथ अपनी अमूल्य अंतर्दृष्टि साझा करने के लिए गणमान्य व्यक्तियों के प्रति हार्दिक आभार व्यक्त किया।
एचपीएनएलयू, शिमला अपनी स्थापना के बाद से, मध्यस्थता पर विशेष ध्यान देने के साथ वैकल्पिक विवाद समाधान (एडीआर) तंत्र को बढ़ावा देने में दृढ़ रहा है। एडीआर प्रकोष्ठ, एक छात्र-संचालित पहल के रूप में, छात्रों के बीच मध्यस्थता कौशल को आकार देने में सक्रिय रूप से योगदान दे रहा है। पिछले कुछ वर्षों में, एचपीएनएलयू के छात्रों ने देश भर में विभिन्न एडीआर प्रतियोगिताओं में पुरस्कार अर्जित किए हैं और कई छात्रों को विश्वविद्यालय के मार्गदर्शन में मध्यस्थ के रूप में प्रशिक्षित किया गया है।
समन्वय के इस संस्करण में भारत भर के प्रमुख राष्ट्रीय विधि विश्वविद्यालयों और विधि विद्यालयों के साथ-साथ प्रतिष्ठित अंतर्राष्ट्रीय टीमों की भागीदारी शामिल है, जो इस आयोजन के बढ़ते वैश्विक कद की पुष्टि करती है। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मध्यस्थता समुदाय के प्रतिष्ठित मूल्यांकनकर्ताओं की उपस्थिति ने प्रतियोगिता को महत्वपूर्ण मूल्य प्रदान किया और इसमें शामिल सभी लोगों के लिए सीखने का अनुभव भी बढ़ा। इस कार्यक्रम का आयोजन डॉ. रुचि गुप्ता, अध्यक्ष, एडीआर सेल, एचपीएनएलयू, शिमला द्वारा किया गया था।
