National Human Rights Commission: On 27-08-2025, the National Human Rights Commission (‘NHRC’) took suo motu cognizance of the reported gang rape and death of a speech and hearing-impaired woman in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
As per the media report, a speech and hearing-impaired gang rape victim was found dead at her house in Ghaziabad on 21-08-2025. Reportedly, she was subjected to gang rape by two men in the Loni area when she was walking alone on an isolated stretch of road, on 18-08-2025, and was undergoing treatment at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences, Delhi. Furthermore, the two alleged perpetrators have been arrested.
The NHRC stated that if the contents of the news report were true, it raised serious issues of human rights violations. Therefore, the NHRC issued notices to the Director General of Police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh, and the District Magistrate, Ghaziabad, calling for a detailed report on the matter, including status of the investigation and compensation, if any, granted to the victim’s family, within two weeks.
